Your values and ethics builds your life !

Think of life skills as the building blocks or framework that allows individuals to apply the knowledge they acquire in school to real-world problems and situations. Also referred to as “soft skills” in a professional context, the ability to think abstractly and approach problems from various perspectives to find best practical solutions, and the skill to communicate clearly and effectively are just as important as technical knowledge in a particular field or academic subject.

According to Macmillan Education, “In a constantly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life. The dramatic changes in global economies over the past five years have been matched with the transformation in technology and these are all impacting on education, the workplace, and our home life.”

In an ever-growing technology and data-driven world, much of the focus in education has understandably taken a shift toward STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) initiatives that will prepare students for the coursework and careers of the future. But life skills? How well-equipped students are to make good decisions and solve problems in their academic and professional careers as well as their personal lives? This should also play a critical role in a well-rounded and comprehensive education.

There are many skills and values that our young generation is expected to learn and master in order to excel in today’s fast-changing world.
Although we are ready and eager to learn, many early childhood educators are not prepared to engage children in rich subject-matter experiences that lay the groundwork for success later in school and in the workplace. So I have designed a 3 step formula RTI which imbibes essential life-transforming values in us. These life lessons and values will help every individual to cope with the challenges of the real world with grace and confidence as we grow in our life.

Respect
Respect is the bond that holds our relationships together. It is an important life value we should follow as it improves knowledge sharing too. It is evident in history, that merely by respecting elders and seniors many problems had been solved easily. Receiving respect from others is important because it helps us to feel safe and to express ourselves.

Teamwork
When we learn to be part of a team, we learn more about interpersonal ways of creative thinking, problem-solving, listening, leadership and improving our ability to communicate with others. Teamwork also helps us feel like a part of a community and can help in all areas of learning and development.
The ability to work as a team with others isn’t just a skill that kids are going to need at school or at any organisation – it’s an essential skill they’ll use for the rest of their life. Just as individuals are taught other life skills, they need to be taught how to work as a team effectively.

Initiative skills
Taking initiative skills is an ability to do things independently and without prompting which requires a combination of inner energy and outer action. Initiation directs our attention toward a challenging goal and helps us overcome obstacles while moving our life forward in purposeful directions. The ability to take initiative is developed through creativity, dignity, clarity, making a difference for others, and activities that help individuals create their own futures. Learning to take initiative is an important aspect of positive life development that helps us to navigate our lives with courage and optimism.

The acquisition of such life values is a fluid and ongoing process, and working with individuals early in their development to lay the framework with examples that they can understand and apply on their own is a good place to start.
